Founder

Sascha Meinrath

Director & Founder

Sascha Meinrath is the Palmer Chair of Telecommunications at Penn State University, and the founder and director of X-Lab. A former Vice President of the New America Foundation, he founded the Open Technology Institute in 2008 and co-founded the Measurement Lab (M-Lab), a $100 million data platform now used by multiple federal agencies. A pioneer in wireless connectivity, he co-founded Commotion Wireless and the 'Internet in a Suitcase' project. He has been named to the Time Magazine 'Tech 40' and Newsweek's Digital Power Index, is an Ashoka Fellow, and holds Brazilian, German, and U.S. citizenship.

Stephanie Taylor

Practitioner

Co-Founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and Progressive Change Institute (PCI). She has empowered the activism of one million grassroots members, supported over 1,500 candidates, and helped raise over $38 million in small-dollar donations. Holds a Ph.D. in American history from Georgetown.

Steven Mansour

Practitioner

Provides training and support to scientists, non-profits and community groups throughout Latin America since 2004. Former Director of Technology & Partnerships at the World Association of Young Scientists (UNESCO). His work on internet privacy and security has been featured in international media.

Sean Vitka

Practitioner

Works with X-Lab on surveillance reform. Senior Fellow with Demand Progress. Co-founder of the Civil Liberties Coalition, one of the largest coalitions in the U.S. calling for an end to mass government surveillance. Former legislative counsel for Credo Action and federal policy manager at the Sunlight Foundation.
